Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples, in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79

I had not been to Pompeii since the 1980's and much has changed, there has been more excavation and restoration opening up more to see in 1, 2 or 3 hour tours, but some exhibits I remember have also been closed for further resturation.

No matter when you go to Pompeii, you cannot go away without admiring the level of engineering and art that made everyday life comfortable for the inhabitants.

This room which they believe was a dining room shows well preserved fresco's and flooring. It is amazing that so much was preserved for us to see today.
