Behind The Lens

Location

A friend who lived in suburbia near Indianapolis about 70 yards from a major urban street and informed me of a fox den on their property. After setting up a blind, I was able to photographic these lovely creatures for several weeks. I like this shot because it is evident in the expression that he/she found something suspicious with that blind and the sounds coming from it. Many people who view this picture see a cute, young fox. What I see in this picture is a very real expression of wariness and apprehension.

Time

Late pm to early evening.

Lighting

The area was very shady and required that I keep a close eye on factors related to exposure such as ISO, shutter speed, and f-stop.

Equipment

Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 80 - 400 mm.

Inspiration

The opportunity to take picture of urban fox youngsters was too exciting to pass up.

Editing

Most of the post processing was cropping, exposure adjustment and sharpening.

In my camera bag

Normally, I have a Nikon D810 DSLR, 70 - 200mm lens, 24 - 70 mm or 105 mm macro lens, 2X Nikkor teleconverter, and a Nikon SB 900 Speedlight. Depending on the situation, I may have a Manfrotto tripod and PocketWizard remote flash trigger. Always have multiple CF cards and batteries.
