I took these photos (it's a composite of 3) while photographing Elk at a farm in New Hampshire, USA. This fawn was a surprise guest!Time
It was mid-morning, almost noon.Lighting
Just bright sun - nothing special. I just kept shooting somewhat blindly as she ran across the field - not knowing if any shots were in focus but hoping so! The Elk were not moving and I wasn't ready for action shots!Equipment
Hand held Canon 5d Mark III, Canon 70-300mm lens. UV filter. Was out to 300mm to see the elk but dialed it back when I saw the fawn out of the corner of my eye. She was moving pretty fast!Inspiration
I love animals and was very excited to see her run into my line of vision! I am learning a lot about Photoshop and tried doing a composite with some of these shots.Editing
This was one of my first tries at merging photos together in Photoshop. This final image is a composite of three as she ran across the field. I was pretty excited to have at least three clear shots and even more so when I was able to merge them together! People always think there are three deer in this photo. It's a surprise to many to hear it's the same deer!In my camera bag
Camera, zoom, mid-range and wide angle lenses. Filters, extra batteries, memory cards, lens hoods, lens cloths, business cards, money and a snack!Feedback
Be ready for the unexpected! Think fast on your feet (re: flipping camera settings to adjust to something quickly) and enjoy the moment!
