Location
This image was shot in a local Sunflower farm near my home in New Hampshire USA.Time
This image was taken at about midday in 90F heat! Sunflowers love the heat!Lighting
The lightening for this shot was not great as it was midday and it was slightly backlit leaving the flower in shadow. I used post processing to bring out the light in the petals and to show the colors as I saw them in head - vibrant and bright.Equipment
This was shot hand held with my Canon 5D Mark III 24-105 lens no flashInspiration
I have been to the Sunflower fields a few times and on this trip I was looking for unusual looking 'poses' of the flowers. This one caught my eye as half-blooming and I just loved it!Editing
Yes, I did post processing on this photo using Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz Labs software. I used Lightroom to get the image well balanced and colorful. I used Topaz Labs Texture to add some texture and grit to the photo and to further saturate the image. I used Photoshop to update the sky as it needed some clouds that weren't there on that bright sunny day.In my camera bag
My bag usually has my Canon 5D MIII, 3 lenses (wide, zoom and my go to 24-105), my lens baby composer lens with a few interchangeable optics, and all the usual requirements such as charged batteries, cards, lens cloth, lens hoods, business cards, a little cash, and a snack. I had my tripod with me but I tend to shoot hand held.Feedback
Shooting on a hot summer day to get Sunflower shots, in a field with hundreds of flowers and people taking selfies, can be quite a challenge! I looked for unusual flower shapes and used my imagination to think of how I'd like to present the flower(s) in my own way. I suggest looking for what others might not be seeing is fun and makes for unique photography of popular subjects. This image became part of my 'Bold and Beautiful Flower Images' Collection that I released this year. This half-bloomed flower was unusual and just the perfect shot for the day!
