I am a Perthling.
I come in peace.
All I want is for you to see the Night Sky.
Many Earthlings live their lives without ever seeing the Milky Way. Light pollution from major cities spread hundreds of kilometers, engulfing the stars, galaxies and other celestial objects.
I am blessed to be living in Perth, Western Australia. The most isolated city in Australia, where dark skies are just an hour out of the city and the raw WA landscape gives a real sense of the outback.
On this night, I traveled to the Lancelin Sand Dunes, 2 hours North of Perth, and captured an image that I have been trying for over a year, The Explorer figure coined by Michael Goh.
I'm just happy to finally check it off my to-do list.

AMAZING!!! Does "20 sec x 48 frames" mean you took this/parts of this 48 times and layered them all together?

Thank you. :) This image was shot in a 8x6 grid. giving a total of 48 images. Each frame took 20 seconds to capture and were overlapped by about 50% per image. hope this helps :)

That’s amazing. Love the 4wd tracks, some of the best places in WA need one to get to.

Several years ago, I came across a photo titled "Distant Lands" by Michael Goh. I showed a lone figure holding a small light, standing under the stars. I have been wanting to create a similar photograph ever since.Editing
The raw files were imported into lightroom and had the lens correction profiles applied. White balance was corrected and the images were exported at 16bit TIFF files and stitched in Autopano Giga. The stitched file is then imported into Lightroom where the final post processing was done.In my camera bag

It took me many attempts to finally capture a self portrait milky way panorama. And the method that I use is different from person who came up with this concept. Just try and find what suits you best. The final image is what everyone sees.
