Location
The photo has been taken in Valtellina near the city of Sondrio, in the very far North of Italy (almost on the border with Switzerland).Time
It's funny because normally I must visit a place many times, in order to get the result I have in mind. In this case I've been lucky enough to the right compositions straight away. It was the beginning of July, when the sun sets very late. I've been there for a long while (I still remember I was getting hungry), because I waited for the dark and of course for the lights.Lighting
At the beginning I really wanted the car's lights as leading lines to the sanctuary illuminated, in a sort of dark and mysterious environment. Then the clouds turned out with this beautiful strong color, so I decided to keep the photo clearer.Equipment
I've taken this shot with my lovely FujiFilm X-Pro2, combined with the XF 16mm f1.4 and a tripod. Nothing else.Inspiration
Built around the tenth century after the apparition of Our Lady, the Church is surrounded by terraced vineyards and is a magnificent place that I know very well, because is very close from where I live. I have a lot of good souvenirs from there, so I simply decided that I wanted that place in my photographic portfolio.Editing
I usually try to keep simple the things and when I can in landscapes I do only few adjustments, but in this case I did a lot of post... Actually I blended in time different moments of the sunset: a shot as base layer (with the beautiful clouds), than I added a shot for the church's light and at the end another one for the car's lights. In my camera bag
Unless I'm shooting street or I'm free climbing, I've always carry with me two cameras bodies, a FujiFilm X-Pro2 and a X-T2. As lenses I particularly love the Fujinon XF 16mm f1.4, the XF 23mm f2 (always with me) and the versatile XF 50-140mm f2.8, so I try to keep it all the time with me.Feedback
For a shot like this I'd say a solid tripod is mandatory in order to get sharp images to blend together. Depending the season you may need more clothes (due to the cold temperature) with maybe just an hour of time, for example in winter or 2/3 hours in summer time (in this case take with you some granola bars). Another great gadget could be a head lamp, very useful when after the shooting you'll be lost in the dark ;)
