One rock – Two legends.

The one associates this place with the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation, perhaps owing to the foaming waters around the rock fragments, hence the name Aphrodite's Rock.

The other associates the place with the exploits of Basil, a half-Greek (Romios) and half-Arab, explaining the name Digenes (two-blood). Legend tells that the Basil hurled this huge rock from the Troodos Mountains to keep off the invading Saracens, hence the name Petra tou Romiou (Rock of the Greek).
