I took this in the street during a national holiday celebration in the town of Tilarán. It is to celebrate the annexion of Nicoya.Time
It was just before noon, not ideal really. The sun is almost at zenit at that time. So I had to find a good spot and make the best of it.Lighting
Flashing is not an option , it would really distract the children. So, natural light from an intense tropical sun is what I use on these occasionsEquipment
My sturdy D4 and an 80-200, yes it is the very old one. A hat... like I said , round noon under the tropical sun.Inspiration
I have been up and down the central strets of Tilarán most of the day, always trying to get a good view of happy children enjoying their performance. This group was particularly colourful and obviously enjoying the limelight. I have some other lovely shots but this was my favouriteEditing
cropped off some clutter, that's it. Ok some might have fiddle with that bright white bag.. I prefer to leave things real.In my camera bag
The said D4, a wide angle (these days the 24-35 f2) a bright tele like the 85 f 1.4 and a macro lens. If I go to shoot nature obviously a longer tele.Feedback
Watch the groups, discard all those who are only swinging flags or beating drums and looking serious. Go for the happiest groups and try to predict the dance. GEt past others without annoying them, shoot and retract.
