The model I was shooting's family runs a canoe rental company down next to the Buffalo River. We were shooting on her family land and there happened to be an old shuttle bus that was just perfect and we did some photos on it.Time
This was right around sunset if I remember right. The light was shining through the old dusty windows of the bus and just created the perfect sunflare for this photo.Lighting
I work a lot with natural lighting since I mostly only shoot outdoors. It's usually best to shoot right around sunset to get a great moody black and white portrait. The light is soft and there aren't any harsh shadows to take away from your subjectEquipment
This was the first shoot I used my new Canon Rebel T5 on. I know this is supposed to be a "beginner's DSLR" but I've taken so many amazing portraits on this camera that it's my go-to camera still to this day when I'm shooting portrait photography. The lens was an 18-55mm.Inspiration
The bus was just so cool looking that I had to get some shots with it. It really framed the portrait nicely.Editing
Yes, I used a VSCO Film preset to give it a little grit and then played around with lighting and tone to really make it pop in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I usually have my camera, a couple lenses, cleaning cloth, a mini tripod, and my business cards just in case I meet a potential customer!Feedback
Just get out and explore your area. Find maybe some abandoned carsor buildings that would make for great places to pose your portraits. And I would suggest strongly looking into purchasing a set of VSCO Film presets for Lightroom. I really love how they help bring my photos to life.
