I've been to the falls many times (my back yard). This is the best photo I've ever seen of the falls. You really captured its beauty. Well done.

Thank you! That's a huge compliment... And I am a little bit jealous that you are living there, very nice! :-)

Location
This photo was taken at the Athabasca Falls along the Icefields Parkway at Jasper National Park in Canada.Time
We got up at 4.30 in the morning to be on the Icefields Parkway before all the other people. It's amazing to enjoy the peace and quiet of these unique landscape all by oneself. That's why we were at the Athabasca Falls at around 6 am and hat the place all for ourselves...Lighting
The photo was taken before sunrise on a quite cloudy day. This gives the image a very balanced lighting all over the photo and the colors of the landscape are emphasized.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mark II with the EF 16-35 f4 lens. For the long exposure I had to use a tripod. I used no other filters oder flashes in this image.Inspiration

This reduction to simplicity gave me so much peace of mind. All the photos I've taken during the trip are a reminder of this feeling...Editing
I shoot all my photos in raw format. So the photos have to be post-processed, therefore I use Adobe Camera Raw. After that I do some adjustements in Adobe Photoshop. In my camera bag
I always take my camera, which is at the moment the Canon 5D Mark IV and one or two lenses, mostly the Canon EF 16-35 f4 for landscape, with me. Aditionally to the lens I use various neutral density and polar filters to control reflections and the effects of long exposures. And of course a tripod belongs to my basic equipment.Feedback
The first thing is to get up early. Morning hours are really the best time for photography in terms of light as well as in terms of having no other people disturbing. The second thing is to take time. Which means to take time to find the best spot, to take time to find the best composition, to take time to adjust the camera and to take time to wait for the perfect light. Photography should be a conscious effort and not a snapshot while passing by...
