Location
The beautiful Cable Beach in the town of Broome in far north-west, Western Australia. Broome is a very unique town. It has some if the biggest tides in the world from 9 to 12 metres. The only other town between Broome and the top of Western Australia is Derby. Broome is very remote, with the nearest town being a 2 and a half hour drive away.Time
Sunset is a busy time on Cable Beach. In the winter there will be 100 plus, 4WD cars down on the beach parked on the hard, flat sand to watch the colourful sunset in comfort. Some set up tables and have dinner and a drink. Some pull out their foldup chairs and have a drink or a chat. Some just sit on the back tailgate and watch the kids play in the sand. But all are there for the same reason. To watch the beautiful Broome sunsets. This is also when the camel trains take the tourists from allover the world for a sunset camel ride. Majestic magic at its best!Lighting
Lighting is the setting sun. You can choose to have the sun behind you so the camels and tourists a well lit (as in this photo) usually with an orange glow) or your camera facing into the sun giving a beautiful silhouette to the subject. The choice is yours to make.Equipment
This particular photo was taken with my Canon 70D and 10-18mm Lens. No tripod was used - just a very steady bent knee.Inspiration
The sunsets on Cable Beach can be very colourful. Add huge tide movements, a very long beach, very flat beach and you can get some very beautiful pictures of the camel trains or just the sunset.Editing
Sometimes you need to fiddle with the light or contrast as the sun is very strong and that time of day and the wide lens circular polarising filters are a disaster. A little cropping was done to focus on the subjects. In my camera bag
I always carry a spare battery and memory card. Any other lens I think I may like to use that day and a cleaning cloth.Feedback
Please remember that some of the best colour of a sunset is actually 15 minutes AFTER the sun has vanished from the horizon. Most people leave the beach just after the sun has gone down without realising they have probably missed the best colours.
