I sure didn't and thank you so much!!! I did quite a bit of color toning, cloning ( to remove his daddy) ha, and did a composite of 2 images :)

I love the idea and thought behind this image. The execution is fairly well done, however I can see all your clone marks and repeated rocks, brush and lower hill side to the right of the boy. Was he holding hands with someone or is the sleeve too long? I'm guessing the image would be equally as strong without removing dad.... in any case, just my opinion, I love it and am now following you..... keep the work coming.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in the valley of a small mountain range in Powell, Wyoming.
Time
I remember this evening vividly. I had exactly envisioned the Picture I wanted to compose. However, when you are shooting small children around dinner time, you take what you can get Ha! This is not the image I had envisioned, however I am extremely pleased with the results. This was perhaps, even better than what I had planned. This was taken at sunset on May 18th, 2016.
Lighting
There was a gorgeous golden sunset that awaited us! I captured this image just before the sun went behind the mountain and enhanced its intensity and color in post processing.
Equipment
This was a handheld shot with a Nikon D4 135mm lens F/2.0 1/200 and ISO 100.
Inspiration
We live in the west and I wanted to capture the very essence of the Midwest. Cowboy boots, cowboy hats, jeans and a spectacular western sunset were key components to composing this image! This was my only baby born in Wyoming, so it was very special to me that I was able to create this image!
Editing
You often run into exposure issues when photographing sunsets (especially behind a mountain) and the foreground. I compensated for this by creating a composite of the sky while maintaining a correct exposure of the foreground. I also tweeked the overall color tonality of the image giving it a rich, warm feel.
In my camera bag
I shoot with a Nikon D4 and primarily compose portraiture images. My favorite and must have lenses are a 50mm F1.4, 85mm F1.4 and a135mm F2.0. I also love the expo disc to ensure a correct custom white balance every single time!
Feedback
Children often have their own ideas of how a shoot should go. I have learned over the years to have a general idea of the image you would like to compose, but flexibility is the key! My little boy in this particular image was not at all interested in having his picture taken, so I had him chase our puppy, who was much further ahead. Taking lots and lots of picture of children is key to a successful shoot. They become comfortable in front of the camera resulting in natural smiles, ease of playing, and simply being themselves!
