Behind The Lens

Location

in Southern Highlands 1hr SW of sydney

Time

early in morning just before Sunrise infact i had BBQ started up and only just aquired the new wide angle lens needed to try it out for the meteor shower which did not happen.... so worth it.

Lighting

Lighting def think about the moon phrase if anything always try before moon is up or when its not bright.. other thing to keep in minds Light pollution.. this is facing north towards Camden or Sydney... but cause i have the tree there in foreground takes out most of the light pollution.

Equipment

Nikon D7200, Tokina 116 DXII 11-16mm, Vanguard Alta Pro 162CT

Inspiration

my inspiration comes from fact i been taking milky way shots for while not i could never get perfect shot with out having very high ISO or wide angle.. once i got the TOKINA 116 had to take this shot soon as possible i was blown away :D

Editing

Yes most of it was getting the right temp mainly 3500-3800K and vibrant colour then finishing off in PS with the milky way in layers adjusting the leval and unsharp mask a little to bring out the detail and colour in layer mask...

In my camera bag

Wide angle Tokina 11-16mm Tamron 16-300mm few micro fiber cloth vanguard air blower... gorilla grip tripod, polarizer 2 for the different lens and vanguard carbon fiber tripod very sturdy

Feedback

use photoephemeris to know when the moon is full and how high it is on the day for lighting also use Stellarium for milky way position and check the wether map i use Weatherzone.com.au for australia to decide if it is a clear day.. perfect times are winter when there is less stuff in the air on clear nights see more stars etc... try use lowest possible exposure when keeping the stars sharp without movement. at least 5-15secs depending how wide you lens are and the ISO which can range between 1600-3200..
