Behind The Lens

Location

One Saturday I decided to take a ride up to Santa Barbara. There were these two guys dressed as pirates and had a small boat. They were giving Pirate Tours. So just for the fun of it I took a ride. The boat was small and we were about 2 feet above the water. After a tour of the marina, where all the yachts were moored, we rode out toward the buoy. We were really close so I took the picture. You can see Santa Barbara in the distance.

Time

It was around 11:00 AM on a cloudy day. The marine layer had not lifted.

Lighting

I didn't use any special lighting. It was just daylight.

Equipment

I had not planned to take pictures of any import so all I had with me was a Nikon Coolpix 100 camera. Sorry no fancy lens, no tripod, no flash. We were really that close to the buoy so that is how I was able to take the shot.

Inspiration

I was amazed at the way they animals made themselves at home on the buoy. They were not even afraid of people or boats. It was fascinating.

Editing

For post-processing, I really didn't do anything special. I put my name on it and resize the pixels, because the picture size was small.

In my camera bag

I take pictures from everyday life. Most of the time I just have the Nikon Coolpix camera with me or and Apple iPhone.

Feedback

I know people have a lot of expensive equipment, but sometimes just a simple camera will do. There are a lot of things you see everyday and never take pictures of it. Sometimes you don't have a chance to set up all that equipment. Just use a simple camera and snap pictures wherever you go. It is that one moment when you least expect it that you will take a picture of something wonderful.
