Location
This image was taken in Havasu Lake, California on the Colorado River. In this area, the Colorado River divides California and Arizona. Havasu Lake is on the California side, while Lake Havasu is on the Arizona side.Time
This was taken first thing in the morning as the sun was cresting the Mohave Mountains in Arizona.Lighting
I always love the dramatic and magical light quality at sunrise and sunset. It's absolutely the best time of day to be out with my camera.Equipment
Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II Aperture: f/22 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/20 Focal Length: 16/1 Tripod Coffee - does coffee qualify as equipment?Inspiration
When travelling I love to be out when the sun rises and see a new place come to life... It’s so peaceful that time of day. For this photo, I happened to be visiting my Aunt who lives just steps from the river, making it easy to roll out of bed, grab some coffee and head out with my camera. This particular morning was her 80th birthday... so that made this picture extra special for me.Editing
Not really, although I probably bumped up the saturation a bit to make it pop.In my camera bag
My bag normally contains my Canon 5D, Canon EF17-40mm f/4L USM ultra wide angle zoom lens (which is my current favorite), 3-4 assorted lenses of various lengths, extra batteries, charger, assorted filters, a couple granola bars, hair ties, ziplock bags and a bottle of water.Feedback
This same pic would have looked much different at a slightly different angle. I actually had my tripod on the lowest setting possible... and was laying on the rocks to focus. Not too comfortable, but completely worth it! My suggestion? Try a bunch of different angles... get down on the ground, find something to climb on... be different. Most of all - have fun!!
