This is the boat house next to ours. We can get very vibrant sunsets and reflections. I was standing on our dock which is in the lower left area. Lake Cherokee is in East Texas.Time
This was taken at sunset, 6:59 P.M. April 2016.Lighting
Natural Light. The color in the clouds and the pattern of converging lines with the reflection caught my eye.Equipment
Hand held Canon EOS 7D Mark 2, ISO 160, F 6.3 -0.3 step, aperture priority, shutter 1/5 second. The focal length in the data indicates 16 mm, so I would have been using my Tamron 16-300 mm lens.Inspiration
The color of the clouds and the position of the reflection made a good composition. This is my neighbors new boathouse and I sought to capture the colors in our cove. The lake was calm and thus the reflections of the colors were mirror-like.Editing
Due to the low light, this image received post processing in Adobe Photoshop Elements. I reviewed the original image before writing this section. The processed image is more saturated in color than the original. There was the need to bring out detail in the shadow areas to balance the image. I took and processed this in 2016 so all the processing steps are not remembered. Since it was processed in PS Elements, I was a beginner at post processing. I don't think I had Photoshop at that time; I thought it was too complicated. In my camera bag
I tend to travel light. For trips which require flying, I usually take 2 Canon bodies, the 7-D (which has a built in flash) and EOS 5D, with 2 Tamron lenses, the 16-300 for the 7-D and 28-300 for the 5-D. I took a tripod to Europe and never used it! I did pack a mini tripod, but TSA unpacked my carry-on because it was metal and they couldn't tell that it was. This last trip, I found my IPhone 11 was a great addition. I own several other lenses such as a 100 mm macro, fish eye, 50 mm and cable releases and some filters. Those may be used locally, more than carted on long trips.I use the tripod for still life and some exterior flower photography.Feedback
Watch the sky on a daily basis. We do. My husband is an avid sky, storm photographer, so we often walk to the end of our street together. They say some of your best images are close to home. Takes creativity to look past the familiar.
