Beautiful photo! From bottom to top, the sails you captured here are the foresail, lower topsail, upper topsail, topgallant sail and royal sail. What ship is this? Outstanding!

Location
I was in a zodiac with about 10 people with the cruise director in charge of the photo excursion. We were in Ao Phang Nga, Thailand. During each cruise, weather permitting, there is an opportunity to photograph the ship from sea side. The weather was perfect that morning as we followed Star Clipper, and photographed her from all angles. We also got to see cliff caves, Phang Nga National Park beach, as well as the beautiful and unique landscape.Time
We started the photo excursion at 9:30 and spent about 2 hours in the zodiac (a small inflatable, motorized boat). I was glad we went then, because during the afternoon excursion to James Bond Island the sky opened up and a heavy rain soaked us, even though we were in a large a speedboat with a cover. The impending afternoon rain produced great clouds and light. I have several images from the photo shoot that I really like.Lighting
The diffused light and clouds of the morning were a precursor to the heavy rain we experienced later in the day.Equipment
I took one camera and lens in the zodiac. Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Tamron 28-300 F 3.5-6.3. The setting was 46mm, f 10, 1/250 sec. ISO 100. Hand held while bobbing in the zodiac.Inspiration
The ship, scenery and the adventure of a lifetime.Editing
I don't remember the details, but I started with Photoshop CC adobe camera raw sliders. I may have used the detail extractor function in Nix to help bring out the ship's sails. I just compared this to the original and color was maintained. In my camera bag
For this trip, not much! There was a 15 lb. carry-on limit by the airline and I don't have a hard equipment case. I traveled with a Canon 7D mark II, a Tamron 16-300 for that camera and a Canon 16-35 for the 5D Canon. When packing and flying is not an issue, I have a good tripod or 2, appropriate shutter release cable, Canon 100 macro and a Tamron 150-600 for birding and aviation. I have my cameras set up to put jpeg on sd card, and raw on cf card in case of possible problems.Feedback
Enjoy a vacation aboard a true sailing ship. If you are lucky enough to be able to be close enough to one at sea, be ready for anything. Light made this one stand out, I think. I have done this type of photo tender several times now, and sometimes it is rough and wet, and sometimes calmer. Anytime the conditions change, and you are not on a steady platform, just take as many shots as you can at the ISO, aperature, and f stop you can safely hand hold, and hold your breath!
