Location
This picture was taken at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. It is a beautiful place in the mainland of Sri Lanka that takes in orphaned elephants and cares for them and their families.Time
This was taken around 2 in the afternoon because that’s when the elephants are taken to the river to bathe and cool down. The elephants are free to do almost whatever they please for two hours while many people gather to watch.Lighting
I had not planned this picture, so I was extremely happy that there was good lighting which made all of this beautiful elephants features visible.Equipment
My Nikon camera had run out of battery by the time we got here so I actually used my Samsung Galaxy S4 to take this picture. It is honestly one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken on my phone.Inspiration
One of my favorite animals are elephants so I made sure we were going to Pinnawala on our trip to Sri Lanka. This picture honestly happened by chance. The elephants are generally not allowed to come so close to this part of the shore, but this elephant was a mother who was watching her baby. She just came close to us and reached her trunk out to touch my hand.Editing
I’m quite new to editing photos so I didn’t do too much to the picture other than adjust the brightness and add more contrast. In my camera bag
In my camera bag, I always have my Nikon D5100, my 55-300mm lens, and a book of random quotes. I sometimes use these quotes to inspire my next picture!Feedback
This picture was a very in the moment thing, so the best advice I can give is to always have your camera ready! You many end up with an amazing picture to go along with an amazing experience.
