Behind The Lens
Location
Temple Bar area of Dublin. There was a fashion shop with a lot of skull decor outside but I especially like the graffiti and had already shot it. Somehow this guy caught my attention and I recognised the echoes of his suit and that behind him so I shot as quickly as I could. It's not pin sharp but this was about the humour of the juxtaposition rather than artistry. When I checked the shot, the angles weren't great and I'd cropped some of the speech bubble behind him, and for a while I thought I'd messed up the opportunity, but of course I still had the original shot without the man in it. Stitching the two together in photoshop allowed me to rescue the image that I'd intended.Time
Mid to late afternoon, March.Lighting
Natural light.Equipment
Canon 5d III handheld. Can't remember precisely which lens I was using at the time, but it was probably a 24-70.Inspiration
Pure serendipity. Would have been better if the man had been wearing a tie too but you can't have everything!Editing

5D III plus a range of lenses from 17mm to 200mm plus a 1.4 extender. Rarely carry flash and only have a tripod when I'm on a specific mission - I like to be able to react to the world around me.Feedback
Shots like this are all about the ability to react to the moment; having your camera settings right for the lighting conditions and the types of situation you're likely to shoot. In this case I had an ISO that was a little higher than needed, but that allowed me a shutter speed fast enough to freeze this moment. Also I use a Black Rapid sling which allows my camera to hang right next to my hand and so I can be "quick on the draw" if necessary.
