Location
I took this photo in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. This park is known for its rollers sitting beside the road, almost as if they were waiting to be photographed.Time
I took this photo just as we left the Satara camp. It was 7:00 AM. The golden color of the morning had faded before I took this photo, but the lighting was still good.Lighting
Everything happened so quickly that there was no time to fuss about the lighting. The golden hour have just passed but the light was still good as it was not in the middle of the day.Equipment
The camera I used might be surprising, the Canon PowerShot SX240 HS. Yes, it is a very amateur camera not even capable of changing lenses, but never underestimate what can be done with these class of cameras. It surely proved to be a good camera for a beginner, like I was.Inspiration
My favorite birds are Lilac-breasted Rollers, so when I saw it perched so close to the road, I just had to take a photo of it. It happened so quickly I did not have much time to think about how inspiring it was.Editing
The post-processing was minimal, just color adjustments and sharpening, etc.In my camera bag
I have a canon eos 100D and a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens. I recently bought a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. I want to start doing macro photography as well, although nature (especially birds) is my strong point.Feedback
If you want to capture wildlife such as birds, you have to be patient as well as ready to shoot at any time. You should have the right settings on your camera beforehand. So be ready and prepared. Remember it takes practice as well as knowledge of certain birds to capture them, so prepare and get ready! Perfect photo's rarely come easy!
