It is such a treat to see an interesting photo of something I've never seen before. This is so fascinating architecturally. Great point of view and details.

The photo was taken at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in my trip to Abu Dhabi at December, 2010. I’m a self-taught photographer now and have been reading and studying in my free time. I have taken photographs based on what I have been learning about composition, lighting, camera settings and other rules. But the most interesting thing about this picture is it was taken when I didn’t know anything about all of that rules. However, this photograph is the one I have received more view, likes and peer awards than any other in my entire gallery :)Time
No doubt this is my most awarded image and the favorite for everyone who visit my ViewBug profile. I remember taken the tour for visiting Abu Dhabi at December 12th, 2010 in the morning. I got to the Mosque around 8:30am. After walking around and visiting internal halls and prayer rooms it was the time for walking in the biggest prayer area in the backside of the Mosque. The area in the picture is just at the right side of that prayer area.Lighting
I would have preferred all the columns were under same light conditions. However, I think the diagonal columns shadows gave an interesting drama to the image.Equipment
At the time of that trip I used to consider a camera as being just a simple complimentary trip gadget; not a very important one like I consider it now. So, since for that time I hadn’t discovered yet my passion for photography my camera was a very simple one. I’m talking about a 5.1 mega pixels Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P93 point-and-shoot camera. The photograph was taken at f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO-100 at 8mm focal length.Inspiration
I was really impressed by all the details in those columns constructions. It is not possible to see in this image, but all the flowers and leaves are made by very tiny pieces of colored stones. And just like the columns, those flowers are identical and completely symmetric. Also, the pattern created by the parallel columns looked very interesting for a shot.Editing
Actually not. No post-processing was done at the image. When I took the picture, and more recently when I started uploading images to my ViewBug profile, I had no idea on how to do any post-process stuff. So, many of my profile photographs don’t have any sort of manipulation. In my camera bag
As I mentioned before, now I’m a photography student, and so I have a much more sophisticated gear than some years ago when this picture was taken. Nowadays I don’t leave home without carrying my gear pack. The first thing into my bag is my all-in-one Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5:5.6. With that lens, at 28mm I can take wide angle landscapes and scenes, and the lens length range allows me also to take nice portrait at 85mm as well zooming birds and other kind on nature stuff at 200mm or 300mm. Then it comes my Nikon FX D610 body. And to complete the pack, I also include my Oshiro 60mm f/2.8 2:1 super macro lens with a Neewer Led Ring Flash for macro and my Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 fish eye lens. Also, I never forget the two spare batteries, tripod and the remote shooter.Feedback
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has a lot of different nice spots for taking pictures. Since the weather is sunny almost all the time the light conditions are always good, so no worries about cloudy sky or raining days : ) Also, I have seen some very interesting pictures framing that same spot during the night. The place has a very interesting lighting beautification at night and you can take advantage of that for taking a lot of different shots and trying different angles for that place.
