Location
This photo was taken in Mona, Utah. It was taken just after the morning fog lifted, you can still see it a bit in the background. I often come down to this area for work and I have learned to bring my camera just for moments like this. The mountains in the background are part of the Mount Nebo mountain range. I have another shot of a tree across the road surrounded by the morning fog. I love this area.Time
This was in the morning, right after a snowfall and shortly after the fog lifted, very little traffic had been on the road that morning. It was bitter cold, that I remembered well. It always is in this area. The sky was such a brilliant blue it allowed for this frosted tree to really stand out in the photo.Lighting
The lighting was really based on the perfect time of day. The white against the blue allowed for a sharp image. I loved that the sky almost became a variegated shade of blue due to the lighting.Equipment
My trusty Canon 60D, no flash-compulsory. Just a wonderful shot on a cold winter morning.Inspiration
This is area is a part of where I grew up. I love the country side when winter creeps in and then Jack frost touches everything in the morning making it a magical place. The snow covered road and the snowy white fields feel like home to me. When I saw this tree all frosted against the blue sky it took my breath away. So glad I brought my camera with me on this trip.Editing
I deepened the color a bit ( I think-this was a few years ago in 2013), but for the most part this photo stands for itself. In my camera bag
These days I pack my Canon 70D, my favorite lens is a Canon zoom lens EF 28-135 mm ultrasonic, but I also have my Canon Zoom EF 70-200 for those further away shots. My bag also contains my Canon Macro EF 100 mm lens which I absolutely love to pull out for those amazing up close images. I have two different lens hoods and a mini tripod that will do in a pinch. I have my flash, and various filters that I am gradually learning how to use. Of course I always have my cleaning kit, back up battery and charger (as per instructions from my last photography class) and a few extra SD cards. I like to consider my bag as a magic bag, whatever is in there may produce an amazing photo full of magic.Feedback
Most of my photos happen in the moment-they are not really planned or orchestrated. I have made a point to always take my camera and my bag with me when I am out and about. When I take the time to look around me there is always something to see and to catch in a photo, creating a memory. I have always said "never be afraid to take the long way home" you will be amazed at what you find.
