Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Redwood National Park Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center in April of 2015. I was on a Road Trip with my daughter up the California coast starting and ending in San Francisco.

Time

This was taken approximately 12:30 PM. It was a cool day but the sky was clear with a slight breeze.

Lighting

Midafternoon is not the best time for photos but the mist coming off the ocean added to the effect. I did very little enhancement on this one.

Equipment

Canon 60D, I can't remember the lens other than it was a Canon lens it could have been a 75-30mm. No flash just natural lighting. Hand held.

Inspiration

This beach touched my heart. I loved the driftwood, and the gentle waves that came up on the beach. The mist was an added feature that I was thrilled to catch in the photo. I wish we could have spent more time there. I plan on going back soon.

Editing

No post processing. This is as taken. I did not have a great program for post processing when I took this so it is as I saw it.

In my camera bag

My camera which is now a Canon 70D, several lenses (including my new Tamron 150-600), a mini tripod, back up battery and cleaning tools, I have several filters which I am trying to learn to use. I also carry a flash, and lens hoods as I have space. ( I have a really nice camera backpack..)

Feedback

Really for me it is in the moment. I loved how the beach curved away from me and the waves rolling in bringing the mist with it. It is the combination of all the features that made this such a beautiful photo. When I look at it I can almost feel the mist. The angle of the shot is what makes the photo work.
