This photo was taken while I was out walking around my neighborhood looking for different things to photograph, something I do quite often. Passing by a house .I saw this flower in the front garden. The colors of the flower with the afternoon light were perfect to grab this shot.Time
It was around 3:00pm on a nice sunny spring day in May. May 15th 2015 to be exact. The camera was hand held and the lighting was perfect. I find the best time to go out and take photos is early morning between 5am and 11am or in the afternoon from 4pm to night fall. This is not an absolute because the light changes with the seasons and the ideal hours may very a bit. Full sun light from 12pm till 4pm is the worst.Sun is at it's highest and tends to wash things out. Photography at this time requires minimal lens settings and fast shutter speeds and ND or Polorizing filters to cut down lens flair.Lighting
Lighting is always the factor that counts the most when taking photos. The right light can make all the difference from a ho hum photo to a photo with "WOW" factor. My experience has taught me to walk around the subject you want to photo and see how it changes in the different angels of the light falling on it. Then change how you stand and how you hold the camera to take the pic. Don't be static in a standing position to snap a shot. Lay flat on the ground, kneel, or try any other position. Same for the camera. Lay it flat on the ground with the forground , shot from under your subject looking up,shot from waist or knee level. The more your creative with how you take the pic the more the natural light will change giving you some fantastic shots.Equipment
This pic was taken with a Fuji HS25exr.This is what is referred to a bridge camera or a super zoom camera. It is fully digital with a fixed lens that goes from28mm to 800mm zoom. I have sence moved on to Fuji X series mirrorless cameras, with inter changeable lens.Inspiration
Most of my inspiration comes from my gut and my eye. I look at thinks to photograph and try to imagine how I would take the shoot. This flower was perfect for the way I do photography.Editing
The only thing I did was crop the photo to get the great detail from the center of the flower. I like to crop some photos to see if there is something interesting I can draw the viewers eye to. While the photo as such may look good, sometimes pulling a certain part of the photo to the forfront can change the whole impact .In my camera bag
Right now I carry A Fujix10 mirrorless camera and two lenses. A 16 to 50mm lens and a 50 to 230mm zoom lens. Prime lenses will be coming soon :-). I also use a Fuji x30 mirrorless point and shoot camera with a 28 to 112mm fixed lens with an electronic 2x zoom as well as built in macro options. The camera has a plethora of options that make it a very high end point and shoot camera. I also have different filters from different ND strength, some colored filters and a polarizing filter.Feedback
Be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open. Look up, down, around, and behind you. Some of the most beautiful shoots have been taken from non conventional angles. What you photograph is truly subjective to what appeals to you ."Avail yourself of the best photographs that have ever been taken. Then start shooting and keep shooting, if you do it long enough the reason will become apparent." If you want to express yourself graphically I would say get a camera and take lots and lots and lots of pictures, and see if everyone likes them,if they don't do something else.
