Wow, really nice work! I love the diagonal you used, and somehow that conflicting way that the dark character is above the white one, looking upward even, when usually the black or dark is heavier in a composition.. Also the colored flowers in their hair adds a nice subtle touch :) congrats and keep it up!

I live in Bend, OR. It is a wonderful place full of beautiful locations. For this image I took my models to one of the most popular photography locations in the city. One of my favorite things to do is photograph a well known locations in new and unique ways. We shot this at about 8 in the morning. This is a particularly dark spot because the light is blocked by the trees that surrounding the path, so I wanted the sun to be up :)Lighting
My fine art images are usually shot using available light. I feel it makes them seem more real, there is something about grainy images that I love and make me think that what I see could be real. The subjects where positioned where there was a little more light (if they had moved 4 feet back they would have been in a darker area)Equipment
I used a tripod and my trusted Canon 5D with a 70-200 mm lens. Also, I used a small ladder to lift Katie from the floor and create the levitation effect.Inspiration
The only thing I think about when I create one of these images, is my subjects. We talk about concept and create something that we are all happy with and excited about. The two ladies in the image are sisters, and the shoot was a gift from their grandmother. They are both really artistic and very creative, so it was easy for us to come up with interesting ideas. The concept we came up with was "Light and Dark" ... the thing was that we wanted to stay away from the idea that dark is bad and light is good. We just wanted an image where light and dark work together, so I inverted the "roles" (I placed dark higher and looking up, and light lower and looking down). I love this image, it was do much fun to create and the concept came together so easily, can't wait to explore this idea a bit more.Editing
Yes! I worked on it for a couple of hours in Photoshop. I used several brushes, textures, and effects. I also change the color and brightness of the image.In my camera bag
I carry two camera bodies: Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 7D. I also have a 50 mm prime, 70-200 mm, 24-70 mm, and a 10-22 mm. I always have a grey card, a tripod, and a reflector with me. Also, in the back of my car there is always a ladder :) I love shooting from a little higher.Feedback
The most important thing for surreal and levitation photography is to have a plan. One has to know in advance the effect you wish accomplish so you can get the necessary shots. It is like a puzzle that can't be put together without all the pieces. Take some time before the shoot to make a list of the images you will need and set up your shoot according to that list. Also, know your equipment. One has to have the ability to adapt to the lighting situations. Pay attention to your white balance, ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings . If you are trying to shoot in automatic settings the image quality, color, and feel of the images won't be consistent. This makes it extremely difficult to create a composite that is believable and looks natural.
