Location
I took this photo at Merricks Beach on Westernport Bay in Victoria, in the Autumn.Time
6:30 in the morning. I woke up early and saw it was going to be sunny, and I raced down to the beach, about 5 minutes away. There was no one around and it was glorious. It was low tide and the rocks were up.Lighting
The shadows at Merricks are amazing at dawn as the sun rises parallel to the beach. I crouched down low to best capture the long shadows of the rocks on the shore.Equipment
I took the photo with my Nikon D5200, and an 18-50mm lens.Inspiration
Merricks Beach is beautiful at dawn. I often go down to fish off the shore, or just walk around and take photos. That morning everything just looked perfect and I wanted to capture that moment.Editing
I removed a sun spot and that's about it.In my camera bag
All I usually have is my tripod, my Nikon D5200, and my lens.Feedback
Get up really early, and go often to a place to a place you know well. Keep your eyes open for an interesting shot. You might go down and find the lighting to be inappropriate for the photo you're trying to shoot, but then one time, it will be perfect.
