Behind The Lens

Location
Lost Dutchman Museum near Superstition Mountains. The church is also known as the Elvis Chapel because it has appeared in one of his movies.
Time
This shot was taken at night during a lightning storm.
Lighting
The light in the shot is from the church and from the moon.
Equipment
Nikon D800, 24-70mm lens, on a tripod and no flash.
Inspiration
I was coming back from a day trip and on the way home I noticed lightning near the Superstition Mountains. I dropped of my family and took off quickly to try to catch the lightning.
Editing
I did a few things to the picture to enhance the feeling of it. I layered about 3 pictures together to include the clouds, lightning and stars together in one photo and a darker photo so that the church isn't blown out. Additionally I had to play with the color in the foreground because the light from the church was very yellow and distracted from the shot. I used LightRoom, PhotoShop and ColorEfex Pro.
In my camera bag
I usually carry by Nikon D800, 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 1.7 teleconverter, ND filters, polarizer filter, Pocket Wizards for remote triggering, tripod, lens cloth and cleaner, air blower, extra batteries, extra memory cards, sometimes a flash, pen and paper for notes.
Feedback
Best advice is just get out and shoot. Learn from your mistakes. I like to envision what my vision of the shot will be before I take the first shot. This vision includes how I will process the photo. This way I take all the photos I need and try to reduce as much post processing as I can.
