Location
Pigeon Point Lighthouse near Pescadero, California. It is right off of highway 1.Time
This shot was taken around 11pm and the coast was surrounded by fog but had an opening over the water so the moonlight can light up the coast.Lighting
The light from the lighthouse and the 3/4 moon helped to illuminate the landscape.Equipment
Nikon D800, 14-24mm Nikon lens at 20mm, f/2.8, 30 sec, ISO 100, no flash or extra lights, Three Legged Thing Brian tripod.Inspiration
I have been to the lighthouse before on a clear day and when I was in area I saw that the weather report stated there was coastal fog I had to drive over there for the chance to get the lighthouse with fog. I lucked out.Editing
I used Color Efex Pro from Google NIC Software to play with the color balance and to bring out the details. I also used Adobe Lightroom to adjust the brightness/contrast.In my camera bag
I think I carry more than what I need. When I travel I carry 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200mm lens, D800, 4 batteries, BlackRapid camera strap, various filters, remote trigger, several memory cards, sometimes a flash, magmod light modifiers, cables, headphones, laptop, power chargers, notebook, spare battery to charge my phone, pens, cards and it all fits in my ThinkTank Shift Shifter backpack.Feedback
Good sturdy tripod is something I would recommend for a shot like this. The wind was blowing really hard. I had to use my backpack to weigh down the tripod so that it wouldn't move during my 30 sec exposure. Additionally, do anything to eliminate the chance of camera shake by using remote trigger or timer and shoot with the mirror up mode.
