Location
This photo was taken in my garage studio.Time
This was taken mid-day in my garage, so external lighting wasn't a factor.Lighting
Shooting indoors really helped keeping the light consistent and the shadows uniform, both of which were key for this shot.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D MKIII and Tamron 90 mm macro lens mounted on Really Right Stuff's medium ballhead and Manfrotto CF tripod with generic cable release.Inspiration
Being an avid fan of the shooting sports, as well as having an obsession with macro photography, I decided to test out the depth of field abilities of my camera and lens set up and came up with the best way to illustrate the results. I ended up meticulously lining up 500 projectiles on heavy paper and then set up my flash and focal point on the projectile that was front and center, which led me to decide on the title of the photo later as being "The One".Editing
Minor edits and cropping in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 5D MK III, Canon 70-200 mm telephoto, Tamron 24-70 mm, Tamron 90 mm macro, Canon 2x doubler, about 2 dozen various filters (ND, gradient, IR, etc), Canon Speedlite II flash.Feedback
Patience is mandatory, but having fun is even more important! Take you time, set things up slowly and deliberately, and then shoot away and inspect your results, then modify and repeat as necessary!
