The moon rising above Mt Rainier at sunset the day before the Blood Moon. I used my TPE APP to find the location and time for this shot. I knew the moon would rise above Mt Rainier somewhere , I was just not sure exactly where and THEN it peeked over the south side of the mt.

Excellent planning and with a stunning outcome. I get to see the other side of the mount.

Location
I was at a church that had an open field next to it that had an unobstructed view of Mt RainierTime
I took that picture at sunset the day before the blood moon in September.Lighting
The sun was going down as the moon was rising over the mountain. It was a clear evening as the sun hit the mountain that gave it that red glow.Equipment
I used my Canon Mark 5 with a tripod.Inspiration
When I had first moved to Washington I first noticed Mt Rainier with a reddish glow, at sunset, while driving East. I thought what a great picture that would make. One day, while driving down the road from Mt Rainier, I got an awesome , unobstructed view of the mountain In February. The site then would become my GO TO viewing site of the mountain. I use my TPE app frequently to see where the moon or sun might be in relation to the mountain. With the blood moon coming that year I found that , through the app, it would rose right over the mountain. I went the day before the full moon, so the color of the actual moon wood be there next to the reddish mountain. Everything fell into place for a once in a lifetime shot, that I have not replicated since.Editing
I use photoshop to crop and lightly touch up the mountain color. But, very little had to be done.In my camera bag
I have my camera, tripod, extra batteries ( once caught wit a dead battery was enough , filters, and extra batteries for my GPS.Feedback
Use an app like TPE that shows you where the sun/moon is rising from any location. You can adjust the day to look ahead as to what might be the best chance to get the moon, or sun with that perfect lighting. But, then you have to be ready for the weather , that might interfere with that shot. I was lucky. Two hours before my shot there were clouds at the bare and above the mountain. Then as sunset approached, the clouds disappeared. Always have your camera with you.
