Great Blue Heron standing on log in the middle of a small city pond, feathers ruffled after diving for food at Wychwood Park Toronto summer of 2015 - Ardea herodias - We spent the afternoon watching this beautiful Great Blue Heron fishing. This was during the heat of summer in a small pond in the centre of Toronto. During the several hours this Great Blue Heron was feeding, it caught an average of 3 fish per hour, each was 8" or more in length and probably weighed on average one half of a pound. A wonderful time spent, incredible the amount of food this bird ingested over the course of a half a dozen hours or so. Photo by my son Robson.
