Immature Snowy Owl sunning at Tommy Thompson Park - before migrating north - Nyctea scandiaca - Photo by Robson Smith;
This magnificent sunning Immature Snowy Owl was captured whilst migrating and stopping in Toronto at the Tommy Thompson Park conservation area for just 3 days before departing north. Robson the Photographer was able to slowly over a period of 25 minutes to approach within some 50 feet of the Snowy Owl before it decided to move on, and flew away (another photo captured this Snowy Owl in full flight). It was a beautiful time. The Owl was not in the least concerned of our presence, and yet absolutely knew we were there. Unexpected treat!
Hope you enjoy this photo of the Owl on the reclaimed area from Lake Ontario by which this conservation-urban wilderness area has been built up over decades using "clean" waste rubble from demolished buildings in the city of Toronto -hence the bricks in the foreground - Who would have thought a Snowy Owl would feel comfortable resting on the rubble at ground level at the edge of the Lake waters.
