Red-tailed hawk on branch with prey Eastern cottontail rabbit in talon - Buteo jamaicensis, Sylvilagus floridanus - Photo by Robson Smith - We have been following a pair of Red-tailed hawks in the Wychwood Park for over 2 years, and finally in 2015 we were treated to the first glimpse of these magnificent birds in the act of capturing their next meal - This was a moment we had been waiting for, and, were not disappointed with a time frame of about 15 minutes with this view before the Red-tailed hawk flew off with it's prey in it's talon (also captured in a photo too). It was just two days before that we captured the very same and much alive Eastern cottontail Rabbit in another photo. We were about 75 feet away from this Raptor for this picture. This photo was Robson's entry into Canadian Geographic 2015 Wildlife Photography of the year under 18 wildlife category - finishing in the top 13 out of 700 entries.
