Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the studio at CATC College Melbourne, where I was studying at the time.

Time

It was a studio shoot in the middle of the day.

Lighting

I did a whole series with my Model Eden, just using a snoot light only. I wanted to capture really dramatic lighting with lots of chaos and movement with the hair.

Equipment

I shot it on my Canon 6d on a tripod and using the snoot light coming in from the side.

Inspiration

I had previously done a workshop using just one light. However that workshop was based on using soft boxes. I wanted something a little more dramatic, so I applied the same principles and decided to use the snoot. This provided me with more, direct light and dramatic images in the end result.

Editing

There was a little bit of post editing. Just cleaning up the skin a little, as the light is so hard and had it is unforgiving. Other then that it is straight out of camera.

In my camera bag

In my bad I have my Canon 6D body. 85mm Portrait lens, 24-70mm and 70-300mm. You never know just quite may happen. I don't always take my tripod, unless I know I have the need, but I do have a small manfrotto tripod that packs away easily. Thats if I am just walking around shooting. If I am off to a shoot then obviously I take my full tripod, reflector, flash light with soft box, snoot, diffuser.

Feedback

Let your creativity fly. Trust your model and to have a good time. Be daring. Trust. Don't be scared to try something new. Have fun. The best thing about that shoot that anyone who came into the studio left smiling, because everyone on set was having a great time and it was infectious.
