Tony Bonning is a musician, author, storyteller, singer and children's entertainer, but it was his Storyteller persona we wanted to capture. The mysterious traveller in the woods is one which is at the heart of many old folk tales, so we went out to Carstramon Woods shortly before sunset to get the light streaming low through the trees.

To help with the story-book feel, we did the shoot shortly before sunset to get the light streaming low through the trees.Lighting
While the sunlight was at the golden hour, the shadows on Tony were too strong so I used a flash for a fill lightEquipment
This was shot with a Canon 7D MK2 with a Canon f/2.8 24-70mm L Lens and an off-camera Canon FlashInspiration

Adjustments of contrasts, levels and curves, and adding a vignetteIn my camera bag
For the past couple of years I've been using a Canon 7D mk2, which I love. The 3 lenses I use most are my Canon f/2.8 24-70mm, which is pretty much my workhorse lens; a Canon f/2.8 70-200mm which is fantastic for shooting live performances - getting in close in low light conditions; and finally a wide angle Canon 10-22mm for when I need to take in a lot in a small space. I also usually have 2 or 3 Canon speedlights to hand and an assortment of softboxes and modifiers.Feedback
The main thing is to be led by the story or emotion you want to convey - then reverse engineer it. In order to create this mood, what venue, outfits, props, lighting and composition will you need?
