This photo was taken from my in-law's backyard. It was early morning, and I was up with my puppy. The sky outside was incredible, and luckily I had my camera near by. These mason jars are hung up on the back gate, and have an LED built into them to light up at night. It had just rained a couple of days before and filled up all of the jars.Time
This was early in the morning, around 6:30 - 7:00 AM in January. We live in the desert in Southern California, and are sometimes graced with an amazing cloud display.Lighting
The sky was incredible this morning. We live in a valley, so this is the sun starting to rise over the mountains. I also used my camera's built in flash, to try and catch more of the mason jar in the foreground.Equipment
This was taken with my Canon EOS T5. . This was my Christmas present a year before, which has been an amazing way to get into photography. And the lens was my Canon 24mm Pancake, which I had gotten for Christmas a few days before.Inspiration
Waking up early in the morning with my new puppy, and sitting around waiting for the coffee to be ready. These are the best times to sit back and take stock of the world around you. My in-law's house is blessed with a living room that has one all of nearly all windows. I sat on their couch with my coffee and my puppy, and watched the sun start to come up over the mountains. As the sky started to get more color, I knew I had to grab my camera.Editing
Yes, definitely did some post processing. Everything was done in Lightroom. I dropped the shadows as far as I could, in order to get more contrast between the iron gate and the sky above. Also lowered was the highlights, as using the camera's flash cause the lid of the jar and the wire it was hanging on to become too washed out. A couple of small adjustments to saturation and vibrance, and here is the finished product!In my camera bag
Being fairly new to this, and also not having too much disposable income, my camera toolkit is pretty basic. I have the two lenses that came with the kit, 18-55 and 75-300. I got my EFS 24mm, which I love. I also carry around a few ND Filters and remote shutter release. I have a basic, lightweight, tri-pod that I keep in my car at all times. And that's about it!Feedback
This was a fairly easy shot. It was mostly being in the right place at the right time, and trying to use my surroundings as creatively as possible. I loved the way the sky looked through the glass, and the water on the bottom created an amazing effect. Nature is all around us. Sometimes, you just have to slow down, take a look around you, and capture what you see.
