Beautiful! And interesting, too, as a glimpse of something generally unknown. Congratulations on being a finalist.

Thank you! There's so much to photograph besides the popular iconic places. The unbeaten path is much more satisfying to shoot.

Location
This place is called the Dublin Gulch where caves dug up as homes for local miners during the silver rush of around late 1800s near Shoshone, California.Time
This was taken early morning while the sun was peeking out of the mountains from the east. It was an opportune time for the sun to create a flare in a shape of the star as it touches the tops of the mountains.Lighting
The lighting were all natural morning sun while muted by the clouds.Equipment
The camera body used was the Sony A7ii and Sony Zeiss lens SEL1635z.Inspiration
It was totally unplanned. My friend was a total mining town/ghost town geek. While driving towards Death Valley from our lodgings in Ridgecrest, CA, we passed by these miner's lodgings. On this trip, my best images were actually taken during the spur of the moment.Editing
I exposed for the highlights so the sky would look vibrant blue and orange and the shadows on the caves, underexposed. The most major post-processing was lightening the shadows in lightroomIn my camera bag
I have my mirrorless sony gear on my bag. The main bodies of Sony A7ii, A6000 and the pocket camera Sony RX100iv. My favorite lenses are for landscape is the SEL1635z, and for portraits the SEL85F14GM. I have the SEL50F18 too.Feedback
My experience thought me that the best photos are taken during dawn and dusk. Even though this photo was taken on a whim, it's best to plan out your shot like knowing the position of the sun during that particular time of year. The best photos are scouted by initial trips and the best angles for a particular shot well planned. It's best to wait for some clouds in the sky. In short, the most important characteristic of a great photographer is patience.
