Location
This photo was taken on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA. I had recently moved to the Boston area with my wife and 3-year-old daughter and we love to explore the city with camera in hand.Time
This photo was taken just after the sunset.Lighting
I had passed this building many times and hoped to get an image with some color in the sky, but the strong directional lighting really emphasized the contrast and angles on the unique Ray and Maria Stata building.Equipment
This was taken handheld with an Olympus E-M5 and Leica DG Summilux 25mm 1.4Inspiration
I had passed this building a few times and it's unique architecture demands to be photographed. There are many unique angles and perspectives on the building, but with the crescent moon and contrasty directional lighting, this view really spoke to me.Editing
The image was shot in RAW and black & white conversion was done in Lightroom CC along with some dodging & burning as well as increasing contrast and clarity. In my camera bag
It depends on what my goals are at the moment. For walking around and capturing moments, Olympus micro four-thirds cameras area great for street photography with their small profile and in body image stabilization. I carry a 25mm and 50mm (equivalent to a 50mm and 100mm field of view on a full frame camera), for a versatile compact system without the bulk.Feedback
Always be on the lookout for interesting angles on architecture and make a mental note (or mark the location on google maps) so that you can revisit the location when the lighting is ideal. Make several trips to the same area and look for new angles and different light every time. Your sure to come away with an interesting image the more familiar you are with a location and able to present it in it's best light.
