The Excitement of "you mean I can jump in this puddle and not get in trouble" Yea! Pure Awesomeness.

Fantastic Gallery, hit after hit, this is a great job on several levels, lighting, composition, stop frame, and that glorious water! Very talented! Thank you! Jeff

Location
This photo was taken outside my apartment last fall. We were getting a lot of rainy days and my daughter [pictured] loves to splash the puddles with her rain boots on. Rather than scold her or discourage the fun, I decided to make the best of a damp situation and capture the joy she felt letting loose.Time
This was taken well after the sun had gone down so it was necessary to bring my own lighting into the mix.Lighting
It was actively raining during this shot so my cheapo speed lights were covered in ziplock baggies. One behind the model on a gorillapod and the other on a light stand camera left angling down at about 45 degrees. The key light had a piece of printer paper inside the baggie as well for a bit of diffusion.Equipment
This was taken with an Olympus E-M1 and 12-40mm 2.8 lens. The flash system is a Yongnuo TX 560 trigger and 560 III and IV speed lights.Inspiration
I had seen similar backlit rain photos of engagement and wedding images and wanted to try the technique myself. My model was more than willing to jump in, so I decided to give it a shot.Editing
Post processing was fairly minimal. I did clone out the gorilla pod behind the model and increased the contrast and some dodging and burning to fade the background to black (getting rid of a metal frame and a garbage can).In my camera bag
My equipment has changed from this image, but the E-M1 + 12-40 2.8 combo is a very capable camera in a small package. I now carry a 5D III + 85mm 1.2 L and 16-35mm 2.8 L and the aforementioned flash setup when on assignment.Feedback
Have a specific goal or idea of what you would like your image to look like. Then be prepared to throw all your plans out the window once you begin shooting, in order to work with your environment, allow for spontaneity and the possibility of creating something even better than when you first set out.
