I took this photo in my backyard in Bellows Falls, Vermont.Time
This was one of the first photos I took with my new Canon 85mm 1.8 lens. It was a super cold day out but nothing could stop me; I was out walking around my backyard looking for anything that caught my eye. I had gone out right after the snow stopped and found this forgotten plant slumped over in one of my planters. The way the icy crystals formed on top was absolutely gorgeous and an eye catcher! The sun was hidden behind the clouds, the time was around 2:00 in the afternoon.Lighting
The sun was hidden behind the clouds which gave a dreary look to the plant, which I thought added a lot of emotion. I didn't want to use my flash because it would have created such a harsh, artificial light. Natural lighting, even when there isn't much left, is my favorite to work with. Natural light shows the true beauty in nature and creates such beautiful images.Equipment
This was shot on my Canon t5i with a Canon 85 mm 1.8, hand held.Inspiration
I was inspired to use the new lens my mother had bought me for Christmas, a super special and secret gift that I thought for sure that I wasn't going to get. I had to put my new gift to use to show how thankful I was. Today, this is one of my mom's favorite images that I have created.Editing
Usually I like to do some post processing in Light room, but I had just recently gotten Photoshop CC so I experimented with curves and saturation. I wanted to give this image depth so I created an almost matte look to tone down the black contrast in the upper background. I also added a sharpening mask to enhance the ice crystals. In my camera bag
I carry my bag around with me everywhere I go. I always have my camera body, the Canon t5i along with my nifty fifty lens (canon 50mm 1.8), a 100 mm macro, a medium telephoto and kit lens. Recently, I added the Canon 85 mm to my bag. Thanks mom!Feedback
Take a walk first without your camera, then go back out and shoot whatever captured your eye. Don't look for an image, let an image find you.
