This photo was taken at Park Guell in Barcelona, Spain during my April 2015 trip to Europe.Time
This is one of my favorite photos from my stay in Barcelona. I remember walking through Park Guell with my classmates and tour guide and hanging in the back of the group to look for interesting shots. It was mid afternoon with the hot sun blaring down on us, and this structure gave us relief from the burning heat. The harsh light made for beautiful shadows that really capture and draw in the eye throughout the photo.Lighting
Since the sun was so harsh during this time of day, the highlights and shadows created by the sun were astounding, especially in B&W. This was taken with all natural lighting-no flash; I loved how the sun seeped through the structure to create the diagonals.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon t5i with a Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 lens.Inspiration
I was looking for creative lighting that would tell a story, not inhabited by other tourists. I hung around in the back of my group to give me some extra time and space to look for those mesmerizing photos. I distinctively remember pausing in the very back of the group and turning around to see where I've already been; that's when I saw how beautiful the light was when it was seeping through the pillars.Editing
Since the light was so harsh and caused for lots of color correction in post processing, I decided to desaturate the image and let the highlights and shadows do the talking. In my camera bag
I ALWAYS carry my nifty fifty prime f/1.8 lens, along with my 85mm f/2.8 lens as well. In an ideal world, (one in which I could afford all the lenses my heart desires) I would also carry the 24-105mm lens just because I love it too much! I also carry with my Canon t5i, along with an external flash, battery grip, and 55-250 mm lens just in case.Feedback
While on vacation or a school trip, definitely be the last person walking in your group so as to capture the fleeting moments instead of being overwhelmed by everything all at once. This way, not only do you get to capture amazing pieces of history, but you also get to capture the emotions of your group mates as well. Always stop and think before you shoot, imagine your image coming to life from within your camera.
