Peaches

This is Peaches. She is a 28 year old moluccan cockatoo and the love of my life.
Peaches was rescued when she was 8 years old and she had a huge hole in her chest caused by someone in her previous owner's family hitting her with something hard enough to dent her breast plate.
After having surgery done to repair the damage, it became obvious that no matter what we did she would continue to dig at the wound in her chest because as far as she was concerned even the scar wasn't supposed to be there so she continued to correct this problem herself by digging at it constantly.
Over the years she has become a vital part of our family and no longer considers herself a bird. She can talk up a storm and thinks she is a person. She is unable to fly, but can certainly cross the floor in one quick hurry if she wants something across the room. I can't tell you how funny it is to have her following me down the hallway and wanting to play on the bed while I'm trying to make it.
She has her favorite toys and spends her days sitting on my shoulder when I'm doing stuff around the house or on my chest when I'm resting on the couch. She prefers to nap with me and insists that I share my pretzels with her.
You will notice that she has torn the tape off of points on her collar, but that's ok, I'd rather she chew her collar instead of her chest. I know she can be so ratty looking, but I don't care. She is a wonderful companion and such a loving friend. She is always cuddling up to my face to nap with her head on my cheek or preening my eyelashes as she would if I were her mate.
Peaches is a special friend and we no longer consider her a pet. She has become a vital part of our family and we treat her as such. I hope you can see the love in her eyes as easily as we do.
