This photo was taken when my son and I quietly snuck up on this gorgeous hawk. We were standing below the branch and he didn't even flutter. It seems he knew we meant him no harm, so he just sat quietly contemplating his own private world around him.
He wasn't very old because he still had down feathers around his legs and on his belly. Perhaps that was why he didn't fly away. Perhaps he has never been scared off by humans yet. I'm sure in time he will learn to keep his distance.
He must have remained on the branch for almost an hour before flying across the field and back into the bush. He was so graceful until he reached the edge of the bush and then it seemed as if flitting from branch to branch was easier than flying through between the trees. Again another reason we thought he hadn't been out of the nest to many times yet. He seemed to still be trying to learn how to manouver through the forest.
