It's amazing how things change when one season comes to an end and another begins. This is the primary example of exactly that.
Last summer this was one of my favorite rock hounding spots. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the intense heat, sweating and becoming burnt to a crisp. It seemed that I would never be able to drink enough water to quench my thirst.
Now, with summer gone, fall almost at an end and the weather getting colder and colder by the day, it's harder to remember what that overwhelming heat was like.
However, with the coming of winter and the expectations of abundance amounts of snow and ice, this was the first reminder of what is to come.
This photo is just a portion of the rock wall but I was so drawn to the ice here I just had to capture it for all time.
There is a fresh water spring that comes out of the rock wall a short distance away from this area, so I automatically thought this was what created this gorgeous design, but to my surprise, the spring doesn't flow anywhere near this area.
This beautiful ice sculpture was from a torrential downpour we had that morning. I was surprised to see that it actually froze, however the temperature dropped so suddenly that it froze on the rock almost immediately when the rain was falling. I am still amazed at it's beauty and the fact that it froze so quickly.
Somewhere in behind that ice, there is a large selection of crystals and semi-precious stone. I had managed to collect quite a few white and grey quartz crystals as well as some pyrite, agate and so many other rock samples I am still researching.
I am looking forward to beng able to begin rock hounding again once the snow and ice melt and spring pokes her nose around the corner.
I hope you can get a sense of this particular rock section and the history that it holds in each of the different layers of rock. Our history has been sealed within each different layer of rock and is there for each and every one of us to discover should we choose to do so.
