Took this photo near the lodge we were staying in in Aviemore Scotland. When I saw these the first day they were all over mature, then on the following day this one caught my eye as it looks like ones you see in fairy tales where Mr. Mouse has his house, although it was much smaller than that.

Nicely ripe, and as yet un-nibbled by haggis. Thanks for entering it in my challenge. Alas not a winner, but still commendable. Good luck in future comps and challenges.

Location
My 'shroom photo was taken in the woods behind our lodge at Aviemore, Scotland.Time
We had been out touring around the area and upon return I noticed there were a number of these fairy tale looking mushrooms. While the others were busy making dinner, I took the opportunity to experiment with some close up photography.Lighting
The lighting was all natural. The late sunny afternoon was perfect, and the location in the woods provided the perfect softening.Equipment
My work horse camera, Sony A65, was fairly new to me when this shot was taken. I was using my Sony 18-250mm zoom lens, at 120mm, which is great for travel as it provides a wide range and good quality images. Most images I like to shoot in Manual mode, which allows some in camera colour enhancing.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo was how closely it resembled ones shown in many children's fairy tales. Expecting to see a little door with a Scottish faerie peering through the window, I wanted to get real close. Alas, those images can only be in one's eye, or perhaps with some crafty editing.Editing
This image is straight from the camera, no post processing. In my camera bag
For travel, I love to accompany the A65 with my Sony 18-250mm as it provides great versatility, without having to change out lenses too often. I do also love to carry along my Tamron ultrawide angle 10-24mm lens and for the really long shots I have my old Tamron 200-400 telephoto, if weight is no problem. Also have a few other gadgets in the bag including an intervalometer, lots of spare cards and one of a variety of tripods/monopods.Feedback
Look up, look down, look all around is the best advice for capturing images that may appeal to a wide audience. When travelling, as we were, I found there were things like this mushroom that I had never seen before in real life, but also found some other wonderful berries in the same area like I used to pick when growing up in western Canada. All great subjects, so don't be afraid to delve into something outside your comfort zone. And sometimes on these low shots you have to be prepared for getting a bit wet or dirty.
