I had a day to myself to explore London while awaiting the rest of the family to finish work or come from the theatre. The weather was brisk, but was pleasant when I found myself at the base of the newest unique building in London, England.

Location
London has been a favourite spot for exploring the sights. Having seen the Shard from afar I made it a point to get up close and personal.Time
I had the entire day to explore on my own and found myself around noon looking for the perfect angle to capture my muse.Lighting
With a partly cloudy day and the sun high in the sky, the challenge for me was to use the sun as a backlight to the building. This location provided some great reflection on the windows.Equipment
Shot with my Sony A350, using my ultra wide Tamron zoom lens at 10mm, hand held.Inspiration
I had admired the Shard from the time it was built. A great engineering and architectural feat. Since I had the time to explore I was able to get underneath for this unique angle view.Editing
In order to increase the contrast on the clouds, I created an HDR image from the raw photo with Corel Paintshop Pro.In my camera bag
When travelling I like to keep my kit a bit smaller. Currently use a Sony A650 with a 28-250mm Sony zoom lens, 10-24mm Tamron Ultrawide zoom and a Tamron 200-400mm zoom (if I am feeling strong). I also carry a few filters, polarizing and a variable neutral density for special shots. Most recently, I have a new monopod that has been seeing more use, especially for longer exposures.Feedback
I like to keep my eyes open for any opportunity to add my own flare to what I may have seen others do. With travel photography, which this image is one for me, you don’t always have the perfect light or can’t plan for certain conditions, so one must be prepared to try something new.
