Location
This photo was taken on a hike by Window Mountain (AB Canada) last summer. My son kept picking wild flowers for me and giving them to me as we walked. Every time he did this he would say to me 'Mom!!! Take my picture!!'
Time
We had set out to take another hike on this particular day, but smoke from forest fires our winds were bringing in that day; we decided to take this hike instead and we left later than we had planned. This photo was taken about 3pm.
Lighting
With so much smoke in the air it gave the appearance of an overcast day even though it was warm and the sun was high in the sky. The smoke definitely diffused the light!
Equipment
In this picture I used my Nikon D610, hand held without any flash or any other studio lighting. The sun was high and bright in the sky but was diffused by smoke from a forest fire the winds were bringing in that day!

Inspiration
I was taking pictures of flowers at the time as we were walking. If I remember correctly I was using my 105mm at the time. He was really insistent that I see the flowers that he was picking for me so I manually focused on them to be the subject of the photo. It was a really quick snap to appease him and turned into one of my most loved photos!!
Editing
This photo was taken just as I was beginning to learn photography and my skills in post processing were even less than they are now. Post processing was very basic checks of white balance, sharpening and noise reducing.
In my camera bag
I normally carry my Nikkor 16-35mm, as well as my 70-300mm and my 24-85mm kit lens. I've recently acquired a Tamron 150-600mm which I have found myself bringing out more and more. I make a point of bringing out my macro lens (105mm) when I'm planning on shooting landscape...just in case as it wonderfully doubles as an everything lens when I need it to.
Feedback
My best piece of advice would be to live in the moment. Had I brushed my son off as less important or ignored him I would have missed an excellent photographic opportunity. I not only love this photo for it's elements but also for it's place of sentiment in my family life. I love looking through the lens and strive to continue doing so, so I never miss any spontaneous moments like I nearly missed with this!
