“Sceloporus undulatus tedbrowni “ Common name Fence Lizard. Fence lizards hunt in the day and spend much of their other time sun basking. Their diet consists of primarily insects and spiders. When surprised, they often will dash for a nearby tree, climb up a short distance, and then hide on the opposite side of the trunk, moving around to stay on the opposite side if approached. They can make good pets, as some are quite docile, but others can be quite fierce, and are better left alone. Wild fence lizards suffer from attacks of introduced fire ants, which try to lift up the scales on the soft underbelly of the lizard, and inject toxic neuromuscular venom into the lizard, killing it. Do NOT try keeping them captive for too long, because if you are planning to let it go, it will lose hunting skills and survival instincts. The lizards have adapted through rapid evolution longer legs to escape the ants, which can kill the lizard in under a minute.
