We left our house on a very cloudy evening to take some shots of the blood moon eclipse. We were not sure what we would come away with, but then the sky cleared up right where we needed it. The clouds made some shadows, but didn't stop from getting some amazing shots. I composited this image mainly for family and friends in hopes this may encourage them and others to look up at our wonderful moon.

This photo was taken at Puddingstone Lake, San Dimas, CA during the time of the Blood Moon Eclipse.Time
We left our house on a very cloudy evening. We were not sure what we would come away with, but then the sky cleared up right where we needed it. The clouds made some shadows, but didn't stop us from getting some amazing shots.Lighting
The moon is usually pretty bright in the sky and you may need to compensate as the moon rises higher in the sky. I usually start out around ISO 400, and adjust up or down from there.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70D with 55-250mm at 135mm, ISO 400, F/6.3, 2.0s on a sturdy tripod.Inspiration
This is a composite image mainly for family and friends hoping to encourage them and others to look at our wonderful moon.Editing
This is a composite 12 photos. I had to process one of the raw images for the foreground and the other 11 for the different moon phases in Lightroom and combined them together in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I'm primarily a landscape photographer and an astrophotographer. I started with a Sony A6000 (This is now my husband's favorite camera.) I then bought a Canon 70D for doing deep sky photos of nebulas and galaxies. I really liked the 24mm f/1.4 for doing milkyway photos. And we use this camera inside our 6" telescope for deep sky images. A year ago, I bought a Fuji XT3, it does extremely well in low light. This has become my main camera. I have a 12mm f/2.0 prime lens, super sharp for wide angle for milky way shots. For daytime shots I use a 10-24mm 4.0 zoom lens. I have a 18-55mm kit lens for just walking around. And for super zoom shots for wildlife or moon shots, I have 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens. We also carry several tripods, gloves, hats, flashlights, Light Painting brushes, Firecrest Filters and holder for sunsets.Feedback
Scope out the location before you head out and allow time to setup prior to the event starting. Setup your shot and adjust as needed as it gets darker. Bring a lawn chair and get comfortable for a long but enjoyable night. Check on closing times of the location as we didn't and had to leave and missed the last couple of phases of the moon.
