Location
This picture was taken at Ulawatu in Bali during a traditional Balinese fire dance and theatre performance .Time
The performance takes place late afternoon and this was taken just before sunset.Lighting
The original unedited photo already had some interesting lighting due to the time of day and the impact the smoke had. When I started to play around with edits I found that by removing the colour it gave the scene an even more mysterious and atmospheric edge.Equipment
Sony A65V with a tamron 70-300 lensInspiration
The whole performance was very colourful and mystic and I tried to find a few moments that would summarise this feeling.Editing
I did many edits of this picture with very different results and on different tools. To be honest I think this is one of the basic edits either from Instagram or iPhoto, but I found that by removing the colour and increasing some of the highlights and shadows it added nicely to the atmosphere. In my camera bag
Not much really, in addition to the 70-300 lens I usually use I always carry a macro lens and a few filters but not much else.Feedback
No real technical advice, but I usually go with my gut and try and capture the moments I want to be able to share with others. And sometimes you have to be a bit lucky and hit just the right moment....
